A spark of industry know-how,
i.e. cable or electric wire?

At the end of 2024, the Polish Economic Chamber of Electrotechnics published the Polish standard PN-IEC 60050-461:2024-09 International Dictionary of Electrical Terminology.

This standard clarifies industry nomenclature and resolves the dilemma regarding the nomenclature “cable or electric cable”, indicating that the correct/recommended Polish term is cable. This is an accurate translation of the term and the definition of the said term from English. Definitions of the terms in English are available on electropedia. In current standards, the English word “cables” is used in three ways: “electric wires”, “electric cables and wires” and “cables”.

At Voltrim, we value sound technical knowledge, which is why we consistently use the term “cable” on our website, avoiding the use of the term “electric cable” or “power cable” (which for many years was synonymous with cable and used interchangeably in the language of the industry).
